The Fight Against Evil, Recognizing Small Things, The Value of Forgiveness and More - Monday September 1, 2024

On My Mind

We think of war as something awful, and with good reason. We believe our military fights tough battles, and they do. But we forget that the evil behind the war is Satan. And the "strength" the evil has, the reason the soldiers have battles to fight in the first place is because the source of all evil has not been defeated. Ultimately, yes, but currently it is still active and causing untold damage. But we are equipped with weapons, through Christ, to fight that evil. I shared these verses yesterday and I'm sharing them again.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the word of the Spirit, which is the word of God. ~ Ephesians 6:10-17

We, each of us, are not without responsibility and not without the spiritual weapons to fight. Our individual battles are not without value and collectively they are beyond value. Don't ever back down!

Small flowers

These little flowers reminded me of something the Pastor said yesterday - "Sometimes the big is in the little."

I am Reading

Do it now

"I was reading A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson and she said, "Unforgiveness is like drinking poison yourself and waiting for the other person to die." And it hit me like a ton of b ricks. All the anger I held in my heart for those who had hurt me was only affecting me. I did some further research and discovered that unforgiveness is like a cancer; it eats away at the mind, body, and soul. A study reported by Johns Hopkins Medicine found that forgiveness lowers stress levels, anxiety, and depression; it improves blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and sleep. It also lowers the risk of heart attack. On the other hand, chronic anger keeps the body i fight-or-flight mode, which means that excess cortisol is constantly flowing through the bloodstream. Too much cortisol in the body can increase the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. A person who is always angry is also more prone to depression.

Goals

Well, I didn't make my goal of getting up at 5:30 this morning. I woke up at 5:30 and made the decision to sleep in since it was a holiday. I enjoyed sleeping in until 7:00. I did meet my exercise goal for today though, with exercise focused on arms and a 35-minute walk. And I spent more than 3 1/2 hours doing writing/online work. So overall I'm pretty happy with today.
