Buried or Planted: Understanding the Difference Between Endings and New Beginnings

During difficult times when we feel trapped in a deep, dark place, it can seem as though we are being buried. The mechanics of burying and planting are quite similar, yet the outcomes are vastly different. What distinguishes them? Being buried signifies an end, whereas being planted marks a beginning.

How can we be sure, when everything appears bleak and I feel overwhelmed and covered by the "dirt" of life, that it's not the end? There have been moments when it seemed impossible to move forward. Sometimes it feels like new beginnings are unattainable from my current position. Yet, when I read verses like these, I am reminded that as long as I have God, there will always be life, hope, and the possibility of new beginnings from even the darkest places.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. ~ Ephesians 2:10

I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. ~ John 10:10

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ~ Jeremiah 29:11

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. ~ Romans 8:28
