The Shadow of His Wings

Friday June 2

This week as we've been working through our morning lessons each day my attention was drawn to birds - two little girls had recent birthdays, turning two and three, one of our science fact learning cards was about birds and I loved our memory verse. We talked about how a mother bird hides her babies under her wings and God loves and protects us like that too. This made me start thinking about verses in the Bible that reference birds and I did a little search. Here are a few of my favorites.

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? ~ Matthew 6:26

Even the sparrow has found a home,

and the swallow a nest for herself,

where she may have her young -

a place near your alter,

Lord Almighty, my King and my God.

Blessed are those who dwell in your house;

they are ever praising you.

~ Psalm 84:3-4

Like birds hovering overhead,

the Lord Almighty will shield Jerusalem;

He will shield it and deliver it,

He will 'pass over' it and will rescue it.

~ Isaiah 31:5

So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teams and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. ~ Genesis 1:21

It's definitely getting warmer after this cool Spring. We spent a lot of time outside as usual, playing in the sand table and on the playground, climbing in the tree, relaxing and looking at books and taking water breaks.

We rarely get to see Amanda's White's Dumpy Tree Frogs but one finally took a peek at the big wide world and Amanda got a picture of it and sent it to me. We do often get to hear them croak though and I love the sound.

And, of course, I'm sharing another excerpt from one of my current reads.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings to search out a matter." (Proverbs 25:2)

Through the unfolding revelations of quantum mechanics some scientists are beginning to accept the idea that the ultimate source of the quantum world points toward the existence of a brilliant "mind!" That "mind" is no less than the glorious omniscient mind of the Creator: "Who has known the mind of the Lord?" asks Paul. The precision fine-tuning of natures numbers, even at the quantum level, reveals the existence of the mind of God. pg. 220
