Talk Less, Act More

I came across an interesting verse the other day - Then they will exclaim, "Pharaoh king of Egypt is only a loud noise; he has missed his opportunity." ~ Jeremiah 46:17 NIV
Another translation says it like this -" A braggart who missed his chance." NRSV
It's easy to discuss all the things we aspire to achieve. We notice opportunities, get enthusiastic, and share with everyone around us how fantastic they are and how we will take full advantage of them. Research indicates that talking to others about our exciting goals provides the brain with a dopamine boost. Although this might initially seem beneficial, it can hinder achieving these goals. Since the brain has already received its dopamine boost from sharing the idea, the sense of urgency to act diminishes. In this mental state, it's easy to become "a loudmouth who has missed the opportunity," or a "braggart who misses the chance" to succeed.
The Bible is full of these thought-provoking little insights. Sometimes these little discoveries show me how I want to live, but some, like this one, show me how I do NOT want to live. Sometimes, it's wise to talk less and act more.

Today has been busy, full of blessings, both small and large.

The radishes developed into lush, full plants, but the radishes themselves weren't getting very big. Over the past few days, I observed they were beginning to seed, so I chose to pull them all. Michael and I tackled this small project together, and I had an adorable, eager helper.

We love visiting the chickens each day - gathering eggs and taking them weeds from the garden.

Our Bible story today was about Saul, Israel's first king.

Our letter this week is Xx. We learned about the sound it makes and practiced writing it, finding and circling it, and coloring it.

We got to play outside a little before the rain started.

And we had fun playing inside.

From the kitchen - hard boiled eggs for breakfast, fruits and veggies for my morning smoothie, jalapeño cheddar bread, and chicken quesadillas that Michael made us for lunch.
