Sweet Words, an Egg and More -Wednesday August 9

"Behold, the days are coming," declares the Lord God, "when I will send a famine on the land - not a famine of bread, or a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the Lord, but they shall not find it" Amos 8:11-12

We read of famines around the world that result in hungry, malnourished people and our hearts break because of the suffering. And they should not only break but be moved to action to alleviate that suffering. And yet, there is an even more tragic kind of famine that may not be thought of as often and sadly, seems to have less of a pull on our heart strings - a famine of the life giving Word of God.

Surrounded as we are by multiple ways of being fed by His Word it may become easy to take it for granted and create a personal famine simply by not taking the time and making the effort to hear it. It's far to easy to be one numb to the effects of not being fed by His Word. So I've been asking myself - How can I make a conscious effort to be richly fed by His Word? Here are some ways that work for me.

  1. Reading - this may seem like the most obvious way but it's easy to put it off repeatedly until it just doesn't happen. YouVersion has been very useful to me for this.

  2. Audible - I use Audible and have downloaded the Word of Promise Audio Bible. This is often playing as I work, especially in the early mornings when it is quiet.

  3. YouTube - there are a number of YouTube videos that play gentle background music while Scripture is being read and I often have these playing in rooms where we have a TV.

These are just a few things that I find useful. And it's interesting to me that the more of His Word I get, the more I crave.

When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty.

~ Jeremiah 15:16

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Psalm 119:103

. . . . .

Today we missed the friends who went to school but we also had fun with those who were here.

We started the morning watching buses go by.

A little artwork and a lot of questions about colors.

I love seeing imaginations at work!

After some stern lectures about the need to earn their keep and lay some eggs we finally got our first egg from this flock!

The words that I speak to you are Spirit and they are life. (John 6:63)

. . . . .

The calling of the sons and daughters of God is to lay hold of that for which God has laid hold of them. We are called to host the glory cloud here on earth just as Jesus hosted the very atmosphere of heaven on earth. As Bill Johnson puts it: "We are brokers of another world." There is no greater adventure than for born again sons and daughters to step into their heavenly calling and learn to bring heaven down to earth.
