Hide not your talents, they for use were made,
What's a sundial in the shade?
~ Benjamin Franklin
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. ~ Romans 12:6-8
How do we know what gifts we have to offer the world? Here are some basic questions that may help in identifying these gifts. What brings you joy? What are you passionate about? What do others often compliment you for? What do you enjoy doing?
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. ~ Matthew 5:14-16
Each action we take with our gifts is important. Each action, no matter how big or small, has an impact. Like a ripple, it spreads to those around us in wider and wider circles. When we realize this, we begin to see the importance of taking responsibility for our actions and how we use our gifts to bring good, and even more importantly, to bring God, to those around us.
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. ~ 1 Peter 4:10
How can we be faithful stewards of the gifts God has given us? Adopting a growth mindset and embracing challenges helps us to develop as individuals. Learning and growing takes dedication and work. But because it is work done to become the person God created you to be, to bring glory to Him and point others to Him, it is valuable work worth doing.
