Yesterday, I wrote about Adam in this post - Adam, Created by God for God's Purposes. God created Adam for a purpose, and there are some practical lessons we can learn from this. So, how does this apply in practical ways to you and me today?
We Are to Care for the Space Around Us
The garden was Adam's home, and God gave him the responsibility of caring for it. In the same way, our space is ours to care for. God values work, and He also values beauty. He gives us the materials and the creativity and expects us to use them. It's amazing to me how much difference it can make in my outlook on life when I take a little time to beautify the space around me. And there is satisfaction in putting in the work to cultivate and maintain a functional and aesthetically pleasing place to live and work.
However, even beyond this, God values work. Colossians 3:23 says, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart. as working for the Lord, not for human masters." Each of us has a job to do and that job has value.
Spend Time with God
Even more important, though, than caring for our space is spending time with the Giver of these things. This includes taking the time to ask Him for wisdom before making a decision. We do not have to be afraid to ask God for wisdom; He delights in giving it to us. He wants to hear from us, values our thoughts and ideas, and wants to be involved in our lives. He brought Adam the animals to name, and in the same way, He will bring things into our lives to aid in our creative development as we grow and bring glory to Him. And we do not have to be afraid to ask God for wisdom; He delights in giving it to us. James 1:5 says, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
