Five Minute Friday - Suffer

This post is part of the weekly Five Minute Friday link-up.

If I could talk to my younger self, I would just say that the path to great things is filled with a lot of stumbles, suffering, and challenges along the way. But if you have the right attitude and know that hard times will pass - and you get up each time - you will reach your destination. ~ Jonny Kim

We often tend to fear suffering. I know I certainly do anyway. But so often I waste perfectly good time worrying about what might happen later instead of building on the good that is happening now. And sometimes I take suffering a little too seriously; fear it a little too much. Suffering is a part of the journey, but it is not the only part of it. And even during the times of suffering I am never required to walk through it alone.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all Creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~ Romans 8:35, 37-38

If I could talk to Younger Me,

I'd tell me, laugh, don't cry,

and you should always be ready

to kiss your a** goodbye,

for fate can be unkind and fickle,

and Lady Luck a tease,

and one day you'll be in a pickle

from which the sole release

is to throw your life and soul

into Jesus' arms,

and He will hold you, keep you whole,

and chase away the harms

that would otherwise devour

your heart's gentle, fragile flower.
