Be the Light, The Importance of Early Childhood Experiences, and More - Thursday, September 19,2024

On My Mind

For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ~ Ephesians 2:10

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. ~ 1 Peter 2:9

Sometimes life is hard, but never forget you have a purpose. People around you need you to be in their lives, to bring light into the darkness. There's a reason you are who you are, where you are, at this time. Never forget that.

“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche

Kids

Early childhood experiences are connected to ongoing physical health as well as healthy mental and emotional development. The brain does not exist by itself. All biological systems - the brain, cardiovascular, metabolic, immune, and neuroendocrine - are connected. They each have a role to play, but they depend on each other and influence each other's responses. Strengthening relationships, building core skills, and reducing sources of stress increase the likelihood of long-term mental and physical health. I try to keep these things in mind as we go through each day here. There’s more to our days than just getting through the day - we are truly helping to shape our future and it’s a big responsibility as well as a privilege.

Today was our third day in a row stuck inside. We miss the freedom of the outdoors but we've had lots of fun inside too.

Our Veterans - Thoughts, News and Notes

Domenick Fini / NBC News

A little-known federal law has forced nearly 122,000 disabled veterans in the last 12 years to return payouts they received to leave the military when it needed to downsize. This has thrown many veterans into sudden hardship. One veteran stated that it would take him nearly 15 years to pay back what he owes, while another said that his wife, who already works a full-time job, is considering taking on another job to make ends meet. The full story written by Melissa Chan for NBC News can be found here.

I am Reading

That's what life in Christ promises for each of us. In the midst of the darkness, He will always be a light shining and illuminating our way in order for us to discover who we were created to be in this world and the next. And we, in turn, must reflect that light for others around us. pg. 255
